Leaving for the airport at 2am with no sleep, such a strong look Kel! |
One thing I never seem to blog about and always get asked about is travelling. If any of you know me outside the walls of make up houses and drug store cosmetics you will know that the idea of 'home' for me lives on an airplane.
'Wanderlust' isn't a strong enough word for the way my heart aches for travelling so I thought while I was on a mini adventure I'd give you a bit of a look into my fun! This time we decided to go to OKC for the second time this year! in February we went to Edmonton and Oklahoma (and Texas) - to see some Hockey games and we basically fell in love with OKC.
It's just this amazing city with amazing Hockey, good places to have fun and of course some friends that drew us right back only five/six weeks after flying home!

Landing in Chicago, home of our Blackhawks! |
This trip took 19 hours in total (including stop overs) we flew from :
DUB -> London Heathrow {1hr25}
LNH -> Chicago {9hrs10}
Chicago -> OKC {2hr30}
This was easily one of the most stressful trips I have yet to take. Normally we would fly Dublin to an American city which would mean we go through customs and immigration in Ireland, but because we were stopping over in the UK first it meant we had to do it there!
On a normal trip we would get all that done before we even got on a plane, and then we'd never have to do security/questioning/bag pick up again until we got to our final destination where our bags would be and we simply walk off the plane like any other American citizen. Sadly because we booked via London (it was the only flights that had our dates) things were different.
We did nothing in Ireland but basic check in / security, when we got to London we had to do full security again, then another set of security. When we finally land in Chicago we have to : go through immigration, go pick up our bags, re-check them in, go through security, get to the gate.
I needed five hundred drinks after that so when we did get to OKC - we went to the most amazing grill that literally has the most mouth watering found in the entire Oklahoma state.

Waffle Fries with a side of Ranch - Deep Deuce Grill (https://twitter.com/DeepDeuceGrill) |
I hate 99.9% of sauces and last trip to OKC {what 5 weeks ago?!} I was tempted by the idea of Ranch. Now ranch is basically everything about sauces that I hate - yet for the five weeks I was home between our visits I literally started DREAMING about it.
Apparently its not a 'thing' here and everyone just has always had it so people look at me strange when I dance in my seat when I see it on the menu but - moral of the story here is.
If you are ever in Deep Deuce Grill - do yourself a favour and don't leave without getting waffles fries with a side of ranch. That place is probably my favourite place to go in OKC. It's so close to where the Hockey arena is and I mean post/pre game it's a must.
It's an amazing atmosphere, their staff are (mostly) incredible and it's just something you need to experience! They have an indoor bar and an outdoor one with an amazing fire pit and it just is so relaxing and easy going.
Their food is incredible - no matter what you eat they have something for you! They do amazing happy hours with drinks for practically nothing and it's just an all around great place to go!

The Live on the Plaza menu for Empire, normally it's just slightly tweaked! (https://twitter.com/EmpireSliceOKC) |
Another amazing food joint? You guys knew this would be 90% food right? I mean I've been on a crazy five week diet and now I'm eating one of everything so. . .
Empire is this amazing little hole in the wall pizza place that from the outside doesn't seem like much. But once you step inside the door, you are transformed into this other world of amazing interior design, hipsters at every table and the best pizza I've probably ever tasted.
That on top of lovely staff, amazing beer and the fact that the sell their pizza by the slice? It pretty much makes this place like heaven.

A 'Mexican Bulldog' (thats the official name I can't remember what they call them in Deep Deuce Grill) |
Only in America can you order a drink that takes you both of your hands to pick it up. Okay I'm pretty sure its not only in America but it's the first place I've got to experience it. I mean I felt like I was doing an upper arm work out on that drink. May of also felt like I was drowning trying to drink it but all is fair in love and alcohol.

A Thunder glass with my Corona Light! @ Deep Deuece Grill |
In OKC everything revolves around the Thunder and its probably the only thing that I don't love about this place. For some reason basketball is all the rage and I don't know if its just because people from Oklahoma are anti-hockey or just un-willing to admit that it's a million times better than every other sport.

Kimono : ASOS, Top : River Island Skirt : Asos Sunglasses : Ray-ban |
Another thing I don't love about OKC? The heat. I'm talking hitting above 25 at 3am when you are coming home. Its one of those sleep with the fans on or you won't ever wake up again. With this I got a bit daring with my outfits. I know I'm probably still to big to wear stuff like this but I've lost a good bit of weight recently so that combined with crazy heat lead to a lot of skirts and tops that I'd never really wear at home. This ensemble above soon became my 'spice girls' outfit.

Pinkitzel OKC. (https://twitter.com/pinkitzel) |
Pinkitzel is a store that we never went to last OKC trip. Its right across from the underground Cox car pack entrance so we drove past it, noticed how cute it was but it wasn't until after dinner one night when we were craving sugar that we went to this place! Its basically a sugar heaven, even if you don't like sweets just walking through the store is an experience.
They sell single sweets, lollipops, hard sweets, pic'n'mix, cupcakes, drinks, home decor, misc items, foreign candies etc. There is literally something for everyone! In a bigger 'look at all my snaps!' post I'm going to do I'll show you more pictures of the store!

This is just day maybe 1-5 of my holiday but since it took ten years to post I think if you guys want to see what happened the rest of the time I'm going to do a real quick, condensed - instagram style post so look out for that!
